A Sibling Reunion

I haven’t written a post for a while—partially because I’ve been pretty busy, but also because there hasn’t been any significant change in my condition. Sunday, June 12 marked 11 weeks since the accident, and I guess I’m in the “plateau” phase of recovery. While I am getting stronger (see videos below), my overall condition doesn’t feel much different to me than it did three weeks ago.
I still have numbness in my right arm, lower legs, and toes, which makes me very susceptible to changes in temperature. Air conditioning tends to make my right arm feel like a block of ice. But, as I said, I am getting stronger. I actually saw some muscle definition in my arms and thighs today! And there is a world of difference in my ability to do push-ups compared with a month ago when, while on my knees and supported by a harness, I still fell on my nose.
Now for the busy part! Every year, my sisters and I try to get together for a few days. Since everyone thought that Linda and I would be needing help at this point in my recovery, plans were made for my sisters Diana (from Oregon), Sharee (from Blue Ridge, Georgia), and Laura (from Atlanta) to come to Charlottesville during the first week of June. Lucky me!
I picked them all up at the airport on Friday morning and we went straight to Bodo’s Bagels, a Charlottesville institution. To have the full Charlottesville experience, you must eat at Bodo’s! That was the beginning of four days of playing games (Bananagrams and Canasta) and eating lots of good food (Linda’s yummy empanadas, Indian food with our neighbors, and a lunch treat from Laura at Pippin Hill winery).

I didn’t ignore my PT, though—we also took great walks around the property and at Walnut Creek Park, the Rivanna River trail, and Ivy Creek Natural Area. We were rewarded with a trip to Moo Thru (another C’ville must-visit)!

Nothing like family visits to speed the recovery process!

Thinking of you so thought I'd drop in to say hello :)
I’m sure the recent plateau is annoying...but holy hell, the progress from 11 weeks ago is nothing short of a miracle! Glad you’ve been able to spend time with family and enjoy some fun activities in between all your therapies and exercising. I’m still looking forward to my some-day trip to the Coogle Family Fun Farm!
It was a wonderful time. I loved seeing you hop so successfully and walking with you on the trails. I'll take you as a canasta partner next time, too, and then we'll beat the daylights out of Sharee and Laura! Love and thanks to you and Linda.
